Ticket

Thailand has a very good infrastructure and traveling is an enjoyable part of your holiday. You can travel by bus, train or plane to most cities.

Bus:
Local Bus: For traveling between towns in the same district you could use the local buses. They are very cheap but will stop almost everywhere, when passengers want to board or leave the bus the driver will stop for you. The buses are never airconditioned. It is not possible to book tickets in advance.

Aircon Bus:
For longer distances you can use comfortable airconditioned buses. It is possible to buy tickets in advance for these buses. Also there are overnight buses which are quite nice.

Train:
There are 4 main lines, all departing from Bangkok. Some trains are only 3rd class which means very simple (mostly wooden) seats, no aircon and no seat reservation. It is fun to take such a train for just a few hours. 2nd Class is divided in seats or sleepers, both in fan or airconditioned version. This class you can book, actually for the more popular routes you should book a few days in advance. 1st class only exist on a few sleeper trains and you have your own cabin.

The north line ends in Chiang Mai and will pass the Don Muang Airport 45 minutes north of Bangkok. It could be a convenient option to combine a flight with a train to the north.

Plane:

Domestic:
There are 5 major airlines for domestic travel. Budget airlines are Air Asia, Nok Air and One Two Go Airlines. The longer you book in advance the cheaper the ticket. Disadvantage about these airlines is that flights are delayed, cancelled or rescheduled regularly and that the maximum baggage allowance is 15 kg only. Then there is Bangkok Airways which flies to a few destinations only. Thai Airways is the best carrier with a wide network. Especially when you have a connecting flight we recommend them.

International:
Most international flights leave from Bangkok (Suwannapoom) airport. Also a few international flights leave from Chiang Mai, Udon Thani, Koh Samui and Phuket.
